There isn't a big difference between the two, a British person and an American can talk to each other and understand each other perfectly well. But just to point out the differences to you, they are in: 1. pronunciation, the way they say words. 2. spelling, for example: favourite and favorite / colour and color

Mostly the accents. Keep in mind, even there are a lot of varieties of the accents for British and American English themselves, depending on the regions. The other difference is the vocabulary. There are some different words or phrases in both British and American English to say something with the same meaning. For example: I want to eat cookies -> American English I want to eat biscuits -> British English Both sentences are the same meaning, but in American English you use "cookies", while British English use "biscuits".

The vocabulary, spelling, pronunciation mostly. In British English, we go to the "shops", you take a "rubber" to school (Americans would call it "eraser" and "rubber" is something completely different in American English) "class" is pronounced "claas", and words that end in "-or" in AE end in "-our" in BrE.

The most noticeable difference between American and British English is vocabulary. There are hundreds of everyday words that are different. For example, Brits call the front of a car the bonnet, while Americans call it the hood. Americans go on vacation, while Brits go on holiday. New Yorkers live in apartments; Londoners live in flats. Americans would refer to blue as a 'color', while Brits would refer to blue as a 'colour'.
