Spanish Novels for beginners

Hi,

Pretty new to italki, so still checking it out but thought I'd take the opportunity to ask if anyone has found any novels suitable for adult beginners? I think the more opportunities to earn the better! So, I'd like a novel that I can slowly work my way through learning as I go.

Suggestions?

Muchas Gracias

Mick

Amazon and Audible make a good team for language learning. If you get a Kindle e-reader, it comes with a built in Spanish - English dictionary. Just press on a word and the dictionary pops open. You can save lists of vocabulary works and create flashcards. But the selection of beginner books is limited. Still, there is Alice in Wonderland and some CS Lewis titles. the only problem here, with classics, is that the audiobook Spanish translation version may not match the Kindle version. For almost all recent books however, by reviewing the free samples of each available on the web, it seems the audiobook matches the written version perfectly.

I know these free resources:

- There are tales in Spanish and English in "andersenstories.com":

      https://www.andersenstories.com/language.php?andersen=037&l=es&r=en

- "Albalearning" has also audiobooks: https://albalearning.com/

- "Cuentosinfín" is a place where you can find more short stories: http://www.cuentosinfin.com/

- "Centro virtual Cervantes" shows you some graded books: https://cvc.cervantes.es/aula/lecturas/

- "Español con amigos" is also interesting:

     https://espanolconamigos.blogspot.com.es/search/label/Audiolibros?&max-results=12

     https://espanolconamigos.blogspot.com.es/search/label/Literatura?&max-results=12

If you need more kind of books, you can try in those places:

Good luck!

Welcome to Italki Mick!

i think that you can try to read any novel that suits your taste if you read it on a tablet and you download a dictionary so that you can easily search for the words that you do not now. I am reading a novel who was just published this year, it is quite simple, short phrases, lots of dialogues. It’s a detective story with historical background. It takes place during the Spanish Civil War. It’s called Eva and it is written by Arturo Perez Reverte, an ancient war correspondant and author of many novels and member of the Real Academia Española.

I recommend a book called Largas filas de gente rara (Long lines of strange people", by Luis Jorge Boone, it is a selection of short stories. I also recommend Los culpables (The Guilty), by Juan Villoro, is also a book of short stories. Finally, a novel called El cuerpo en que nací (The Body where I Was Born), by Guadalupe Nettel. All of them are Mexican writers, relatively young and they write very interesting things with a clear and direct language.

If you have read the Harry Potter books in English, the Spanish versions are not too hard to read.  Your library probably has the audio book in Spanish.  You can follow along as you listen to the audio book.

Here's a website that has fairly easy little stories in Spanish:

These are not novels.
