For example, in English, we utilize compound sentences by using conjunctions such as "and, but, or, etc." The only one that I know in Korean is "and," which comes to be "과, 와." Let's say I wanted to say:

"I am an American. I love Korea and Japan." How would I go about making these compound? What rules follow making sentences compound in Korean? Since I am showing love for those two countries, normally I would apply the "를, 을" particle to the end of them because they are recieving, so would I add it to the both of them or just one? Everything Pascal said is correct, obviously (he's the Korean, not me!), but I think he left out 그리고 using two clauses. In your sentence you want to use "and" in two ways- to join two clauses and two objects.

You can use 그리고 to link your two clauses (I am an American AND I love Korea and Japan). Pascal shows this in his number 6, but if you want to keep it in one sentence you just add -고 to the stem of your verb.

So: 저는 미국인이고 한국과 일본을 사랑합니다.

I'm not sure whether or not Korean speakers use love as often as English speakers do. Also, I think it can be more conversational to use -하고

저는 미국인이고 한국하고 일본을 좋아합니다.

like other languages there are lots of conjunctions in the Korean language and the usages of them are not that difficult.

The second sentence can be divided into two sentences like
1) 저는 한국을 사랑합니다.
2) 저는 일본을 사랑합니다.

The both sentences are sharing the same pattern "저는____을/를 사랑합니다."
You don't need to put the object markers "을/를" at the end of the both nouns 한국,일본 to link them together because there can't be two objects in A sentence.

저는 꽃을 좋아합니다.(object = 꽃을)
= 저는 사과와 꽃을 좋아합니다.(object = 사과와 꽃을)

= 그와 내가 가장 좋아하는 음식은 김치이다.(subject = 그와 내가)

4) linking predicates
내가 가장 좋아하는 음식은 김치이다. My favorite food is Kimchi.
내가 가장 좋아하는 음식은 피자이다.(*피자 = Pizza)
= 내가 가장 좋아하는 음식은 피자와 김치이다.

5) linking more than two 
저는 김치를 좋아합니다.
저는 사과를 좋아합니다.
저는 꽃을 좋아합니다.
= 저는 김치와 사과와 꽃을 좋아합니다.
= 저는 김치, 사과, 그리고 꽃을 좋아합니다.

6) linking sentences with "그리고"
저는 한국인 입니다. I am Korean.
저는 김치를 좋아합니다. I love Kimchi.
= 저는 한국인 입니다.(period) 그리고 김치를 좋아합니다.
