What's the difference between depressed and heart broken? Maybe when you are heartbroken, you automatically feel depressed. So being heartbroken can be one cause for being depressed.

You could get heartbroken, and become depressed, yes. But you can be heartbroken over more than a relationship with a person of the opposite gender. Actually heartbroken is a description of an emotional condition, your heart isn't broken, your mind is making you feel sad emotions because of the way you're processing information. I don't know, we're strange :)

"Heartbroken" is when someone "breaks" your heart, and only someone very close to you such as a cruel boyfriend can do that. You can also be heartbroken over news of a tragedy if you are touched by it and feel it especially, such as when your country's people are affected. "Depressed" is another way to say "sad." At work, people will sometimes say, "I'm depressed because I have so much work to do and no one to help me."

Depression is a state of sadness over a long period of time. Depression is brought about by different factors. A death of a family member and being heartbroken can make people depressed for some time. If this continues for such a long time, it is not already just sadness but rather depression. Being heartbroken can be the result of the break up of a relationship. It depends on the individual's personality as to how long he/she feels sad about the break up.
