"This" in Korean means (이\i), and "this thing" means (이거\igeo) or (이것\igeot) . "That" in Korean means : 1- (그\keu), and "that thing" means (그거\keugeo) or (그것\keugeot) & "그" is used for something far and you hardly see it. 2- (저\jeo), and "that thing" means (저거\jeogeo) or (저것\jeogeot) & "저" is used for something far and you see it very clearly . Q : 이거 뭐예요 ? \ igeo mow ye yo ? What is this ? Q : 그거 뭐예요 ? \ keugeo mow ye yo ? What is that ? Q : 저거 뭐예요 ? \ jeogeo mow ye yo ? What is that ? -- ^^

이 in korean means (this ) 이것 (this thing ) so if you wanna say what is this? you would say in korean (이것 뭐애요 그 means (that) so 그것(that thing),,,,,what is that?(그것 뭐에요?)

이것 - this example sentence: 이것 뭐야? - what is this? 그것 - that example sentence: 그것 뭐야? - what is that? 저것 - that (over there) example sentence: 저것 뭐야? - what is that (over there)? 이것 (this) is right there next to you or what your holding, 그것 (that) is what is next to the person you're talking to and 저것 (that (over there) is away from both of you that's why it's like saying that over there When you aren't adding something behind 이 you add 것. 이, 그, 저 are like prefixes. You can add them at the beginning of a word like 고양이 (cat) to say "this cat" 것 is kind of like saying thing. this thing, that thing, that thing (over there) in some cases. hope I helped and didn't confuse *.*
