a grape - a single little grape. Not a very big meal. But this is correct a pea - again, just the one tiny single pea, not the pod it comes in. (apparently it was enough to keep a princess awake though) a spice - this refers to a kind of spice. "Peppercorn is a spice." 2 beans - again, not a very big meal. Your kids would starve. But it is correct. 3 peas - also correct. A bigger meal than "a pea" though ;-) Because grapes, beans and peas are so small, you usually have to serve a quantity that is not uncountable, but it would take you a long time. So, we usually refer to these in units such as bunch, pod, bowl etc. a bunch of grapes (a bunch is a single grouping of grapes cut from the vine) a pod of peas (a pod is the green shell peas usually come in. a bowl of beans. Bowl could also work for grapes, or peas. Any of the indefinite quantities you should use should be the same ones you use for any countable nouns. Some, a few, many etc. The words fruit and chicken can both be countable or uncountable. Fruit is the same as spice. If you refer to a kind of fruit, you use the countable form. Mango is a fruit. Mango and watermelon are fruits. However, is you are counting quantity, you would use the uncountable from. I always put a little fruit in my cereal. When you are talking about chickens specifically, you would use the countable form. There are three chickens in my bathtub. However, when you are referring to the category of food, for example, beef, pork, chicken, you would use the uncountable form. Americans eat a lot of chicken.
