'sports meet' or 'sports meeting'? I mean the sports meeting students have in the school. Do we call it 'Sports Day', 'sports meet' or 'sports meeting'? Thank you!!Or 'sports games'?

Hi Helen I think this differs from country to country. In England, we still use the term 'sports day' to describe a special day of sports competitions at school, usually held once a year. google definition: 'an occasion on which the pupils of a school compete in various races and athletic events.' As far as I'm aware, regular sport lessons would just be referred to as 'sport' (I've got sport this afternoon).

I'm still confused as to what you are asking exactly. The day where the whole school has a day off from learning and does sport instead is called 'Sports Day' in the UK (what Dan described as 'field day' in the States.) We do not use the term 'sports meet' here, it is an American term.

Hi, Paul! Thank you for your detailed answer! One more question..Do we need to capitalize as 'Sports Day', or is it OK to write like 'sports day'?

It depends. If you are speaking in general then it is fine not to capitalise. But 'Sports Day' is designated a particular day of the year within a school, so if you are referring specifically to that one day then like any other major event or day it should be capitalised.

If you are talking about when all the kids go to the soccer field to play then it is called "sports meet". "sports meeting" would be proper English but is just not used.

When the team goes to practice together it is called a 'sports meet'. When they go to a play against another team we do not call it a 'sports game' we just call it a game.

"Sports meet" is an accurate term for the event you described. Additional info: You may encounter regional variations on this phrase. In the USA I have heard the term "field day" to describe an entire day at school devoted to sports and organized exercise, which may be similar to what your are thinking of.
