"quedó en ridículo" means that he (or her) did or said something that is foolish. For example, "Juan quedó en ridículo cuando confundió a Dalí con Gandhi" "poner en ridículo" means that someone puts in evidence the foolishness of someone. For instance, "voy a poner en ridículo a Pedro cuando le diga a sus compañeros que ayer se emborrachó con una cerveza"

quedó en ridículo = he made a fool of himself Concerning the meaning quedar en ridículo = poner en ridículo = hacer el ridículo But depending on the point of view of the subject or action you can used one or another. Although they usually are interchangeables. For example in my use I tend to use the different forms in this way. Yo hice el ridículo cuando empecé a hablar de su ex-marido. (here you adress the sentence more towards the reason why you did so) Yo quedé en ridículo delante de su familia. (here I highlight who were the people I made the fool of myself in front of) But when one person do something for making another one to make a fool of himself you have to use poner en ridículo. Le puso en ridículo delante de su familia. (even) Me puse en ridículo delante de su familia. (Here you point out who has caused that someone made the fool....)

This comment is only to make a small correction in your question... ¿CÓMO se traduce LA frase "quedó en ridiculo" AL inglés? Nevertheless, in my opinion it's more common to ask ¿Cómo se dice "aquí lo que quieras traducir" en inglés? So, your question would be more natural if you ask ¿Cómo se dice "quedó en ridículo" en inglés?
