What do "this" and "it" refer to? “He’s me, Jaime realized suddenly. I am speaking to myself, as I was, all cocksure arrogance and empty chivalry. This is what it does to you, to be too good too young.” Excerpt From: George R.R. Martin. “A Storm of Swords.” Bantam. iBooks. This material may be protected by copyright.l Hi. I think in this text "this" refers to "cocksure arrogance and empty chivalry" where "it" refers to "to be too good too young", right? Thank you.

Hi Chino. I'll rephrase Jaime's thoughts here: "Back when I was young, I was just like him: cocksure, arrogant and full of empty chivalry, and too good for my age. Look at me now -- this is what will happen to you when you get as old as I am now." Let me know if this helped, or if you need something else. This = How Jaime is now It = Being too good too young, full of cocksure arrogance and empty chivalry
