Espouse Am I able to show the correct usage of this term 'espouse' in these sentences ? 1. I love this man, he helped a lot of men and women in his hometown to get espoused (I mean get married). 2. The government should harness all the resources they have to espouse (I mean support) the community against drugs. Thanks

In the second sentence, to "espouse" means "to adopt" or "to embrace" a cause. You have the meaning, but the sentence should read: The government should harness all the resources they have to espouse the fight against drugs. or The government should harness all the resources to GAIN the community's espousement against drugs. I'm afraid not. To espouse is to state a particular belief, in such a way as to influence others.

"I don't watch his television show because he espouses hatred for other people."

"The teachings of the mystic espouse the virtues of charity and good will."
