What does “partner” in job positions mean For example, - HR Business Partner - Partner (at EY) I’m confused with partners as in “business partner” (Other company). Why would there be “Partner” in a position in the same company? Thank you

A partner can have more than one meaning it can mean. 1. When two or more people set up a business together they are each partners and there would be legal definitions also; that may be a little different between the various laws of each English speaking country. 2 You can be or became a partner in an already established business or corporation such as a lawyer firm, or a dentist firm or a research firm etc, the list is long. Your name would appear on the companies/firms letterheads and possibly also on the legal documents of the firm in the public records hall of that city or country. Once again the laws and rules would vary between each English speaking country.

Partners are co-owners of certain types of businesses, often those providing professional services. I’m a partner of a small law firm. I worked there for a few years before I made partner. (You might start working as an employee with a view to becoming a partner later. This is competitive and the prospect of becoming a partner would be incentive to work hard.) He didn’t make partner so he left and started his own firm. There are also business partnerships which are essentially agreements between different companies to work together. Amazon is always looking for companies to partner with and expand market share. (There are various types of partnerships, and it’s kind of a general word which could cover a wide range of agreements.)

A Partner is a co-owner in a business. It has a legal definition, and legal responsibilities. Partnerships are common with lawyers, doctors, etc. rather than the business being owned by a company.
