Why does 'Die Berliner Mauer' have an 'ER' ending on Berlin?
Hi to everyone and thanks as always for the replies to my previous questions. Your help is always very much appreciated.

Hopefully this will be a quick question to answer.

Why is the ‘Berlin Wall’ referred to as 'Die Berliner Mauer' (as in why does it have the ‘ER’ ending on Berlin?)

Does the sentence use the genitive and hence mean ‘the wall of Berlin’ or does it employ some rule regarding endings on nouns that I am not aware of?

Seems like wall of Berlin, or Berlin's wall :/.

This is a piece of additional Info. for u to read, though it is not the exact answer to your question.

There are some kinds of beer named with the location name plus "ER" (of the meaning of the people in that location) in Germany, e.g. 
Pfungstadt (location) -> Pfungstädter
Darmstadt (location) -> Darmstädter

PS: ''-stadt'' should be changed to ''-städter''.

When a place name modifies a noun, you add ER, regardless of gender.
No exceptions!
Die Berliner Mauer.
Die Londoner U-Bahn.
Die Pariser Metro.
