1a. They have told us that they are not coming.
1b. They have told that they are not coming.
Which is grammatically correct?
From the 1a., can we regard the "us" as a indirect object, and the "that they are coming" as direct object?
By the way if there is clear context , does the 1b. also grammatically correct?

2a. John is the tallest of them all, but is notwithstanding quite small.
2b. John is the tallest (man ) among all of them, but is notwithstanding quite small (my grammatically guess).
Query : Is the 2b. (my guess) correct by grammar and logic?
3a. Your vegetable plot is three times larger than ours.(original)
3b. Your vegetable plot is three times as large as ours.

1a and 1b are both correct.  In both sentences the direct object is the noun clause "that they are not coming".  "Us" is an indirect object in 1a.

2b is correct.  It would be better if you wrote "among them".

3: all are correct.  3a has a clear precise meaning.  I don't understand why you might think 3c would have the same meaning as 3a.

Another way to express the meaning of 3a is:
"Your vegetable plot is 200% bigger than ours".

1a is perfect.

1b sounds weird but I would say it is technically valid if the context is clear - it's still even grammatically valid if we don't know who they told, it's just a poor choice of wording in that case. We would normally add "us" as in 1a, or change "told" to "said" if we don't want to include the word "us" here.

I don't know much about direct and indirect objects, but ChatGPT tells me "they" is not actually the direct object here. It says "they" is the "subject" that performs the action of telling; "us" is the indirect object that receives the information; and "that they are not coming" is a noun clause that also serves as the direct object here.
