My name is Alicia Carter. My family immigrated from German to the U.S.A. in the mid 19th century, and I have always been fascinated by Germany and its culture. In high school, with the guidance of an excellent German teacher, I fell in love with the language itself. I studied German at the College of Wooster, earning a B.A., then went on to earn an M.A. and Ph.D. in German language and literature at the Ohio State University (in 2003). I began teaching the German language as a Teaching Assistant at OSU in the early 1990s, which means that I have been teaching German at the university level for more than a quarter century!지도 경험
In the words of Joseph Campbell, we human beings do best when we "follow our bliss." Throughout my adult life, teaching, and particularly teaching German, has been my bliss. I was fortunate to recognize teaching as my vocation when I was in college, and l had excellent training in language pedagogy when I was accepted as a teaching assistant at Ohio State's graduate program. I am at my happiest and most fulfilled when I am teaching a language class, whether face to face or online (a modality in which I became proficient during the Covid epidemic). For years I have had excellent teaching evaluations from my students, whether in the classroom or in one on one tutoring.내 강의 및 지도 스타일
I was trained in the communicate method of teaching. I believe that conveying meaningful communication is at the heart of learning to use language. I am able to adapt my teaching methodology and activities to individual students with different learning styles and abilities. My goal in teaching is to encourage all my students, to help them overcome the inevitable fear of "making mistakes," and, in fact, to help them understand that making mistakes and learning a language go hand in hand. I believe that humor and laughter are vital to helping students be comfortable and motivated, and during my years of teaching I have had tremendous success creating a classroom where students feel safe.내 수업 자료

Alicia is friendly, energetic, and a delight to converse with. We discussed a wide range of fun and niche topics over the course of an hour. She is adept at making corrections in a non-intrusive way, records ample notes, and suggests idiomatic and naturalistic phrasing when applicable. I look forward to continuing our lessons together!

My lessons with Alicia are a delight, full of interesting conversation and they are helping me regain more facility in the German language. Alicia is also very attuned to my needs and interests and structures the sessions to fit these. I feel very lucky to have found her as a tutor.

Alicia ist eine wunderbare Deutschlehrerin! Sie ist sehr freundlich und geduldig, und es macht wirklich Spaß, mit ihr zu lernen. Ihre positive Art motiviert mich, Deutsch zu sprechen, auch wenn ich noch Anfänger bin. Der Unterricht mit ihr ist immer angenehm und inspirierend. Ich freue mich jedes Mal auf unsere Stunden!
