This trial will contain a simple introduction of a daily mandarin conversation topic. For the very beginner, this trial will be learning the pronunciation of "拼音“.

The course is designed for both the beginners and those who have learned some Mandarin before.  As for beginners, the course will start with pronunciation. There will be funny practice of tongue twisters. For those who can speak some Mandarin, the course will be practicing daily conversation. Feel free to telling me any topics that you have interest in. This course will be preparation for TOEFL Test in reading, listening, speaking and writing sections. We will read different reading materials, doing a lot of listening and speaking practices, and I will also help revise your writings. There will be homework after class.

Conversational English

This is a lesson for improving your pronunciation at an advanced level to help you sound much more like an American speaker of English. We'll read a text together and practicing shadowing techniques. I'll correct you on pronunciation, teach you the advanced and complex pronunciation rules of modern American English, and I'll train you to speak at a more native level.
My regional American accent is known as "Midwest Ranch" which is the most common American accent (it's become even more common than "American Standard" while also being very similar), which makes it the most common English accent in the world.

I always correct any mistakes, focus on pronunciation and any grammar issues that come up, and review language learned at the end of the class.

I always keep notes of language learned for each student, and regularly we will do quick revisions and tests, from the previous class, to help with internalising the language learned. 

I always correct any grammar or pronunciation issues as they arise.

In my experience often students can get distracted with ideas of mastering complicated grammar rules too early, rather than focus on expanding their vocabulary and level of comprehension.

This is a class for advanced students, who are comfortable in basic conversation in International English, but sometimes struggle when speaking with natives. 

The main areas to focus on at this stage are Phrasal Verbs, Idioms and expansion of vocabulary beyond everyday terms.

So this is exactly what we do!

Speak Like A Native!

These are classes i've designed specifically to drill the fundamentals of English, and practise regularly occurring vocabulary, in different contexts. 

We will work through a 3000 word vocabulary list, that makes up the fundamentals of English, by exploring their meaning, presenting new sentences with them, forming your own and then your doing HW of fill-the-gap tasks of the new words. 

This method of key-word focus, combined with reading and forming new sentences with them is highly effective in learning the fundamentals of English, and is a great way to improve quickly. 

As always in my classes, REVIEW is vital, as is simple homework tasks. I will of course correct pronunciation. The grammar is contained within the sentences, and you will learn in context, which is the most EFFICIENT way to learn. 

For fast results, it's best to use these classes frequently, and in shorter lesson times. Ideally 3 classes a week, of 30 or 45 mins. If you follow this method & do the hometasks, you will see FAST IMPROVEMENTS in your journey towards fluency. 

For students of this level, if you are RESULTS DRIVEN and prepared to work, you will benefit far more from this approach than the standard conversation with correction model.

Informal Tutoring

In this trial lesson, we will get to know one another. I have activities we will go through together, so you get an idea of my teaching methods, and I can evaluate the level you are at. I check for your level in vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar. I check for your skill level in listening, speaking, writing, and reading. We will also speak about your goals and expectations for our lessons going forward.

In this lesson we focus mainly on speaking and listening skills. However, your reading and writing will also improve. During our lessons you will grow in pronunciation and grammar, as well as confidence in your conversation practice. I will send lesson material in advance with exercises regarding a specific topic. I will also send notes on my observations during the lesson, together with homework where you can practice some of the tools we went through in the lesson. You may ask ANY questions and concerns you have, and we will tackle them together.

I have a degree in mechanical engineering. I have attended several years of factory training from companies, whose equipment I would repair. I have a total of 32 years as a journeyman service technician, 25 of those, as a contractor in the field of restaurant equipment repair. I would talk with people all day. Much of my teaching style comes from training people how to use the equipment in restaurants. My philosophy to teaching is there is no dumb question; if you don't know, ASK!

Having had my own company for 40 years, I bring a wealth of experience in the business world of learning a language; specifically English. I can help you prepare for an interview,  strike up a conversation in a professional capability, or talk with a stranger in the grocery line.
Language learning doesn't have to include grammar or rules governing vocabulary. Unless you are studying to be a teacher, grammar doesn't play a part in everyday speaking. Speaking correctly comes with practice.
