Today, I came across a wedding vow that resonated my thoughts exactly. As an ambitious person, I believe that one must fulfill personal goals before marriage. It is because marriage is a team effort and both individuals must grow before even tying the knot. I will be sharing a love story that started 14 years ago.

みなさん、こんにちは。
今日は私の娘の話をします。私の娘は小学4年生です。4歳のころからピアノを習い始め、毎日コツコツ練習する女の子です。そして、音楽教室の発表会や試験に加えて、毎年、何らかのコンクールに出ています。今年は、1年生の時に失敗してしまったコンクールに、もう一度挑戦したいと、自ら「意を決して」挑戦することになりました。
たかが小学1年生。失敗なんて、大げさだって感じですが、彼女は鮮明（せんめい）にそのことを覚えているようです。というのも、事ある毎に、そのことを口にするんです。困ったものです。
失敗の内容は、あまりの緊張で自分が選曲した課題曲ではなく、前の演奏者の曲を弾き始めてしまったのです。そして、途中で気づき、自分の曲を弾きなおしました。とてもショックだったようです。なので、彼女はそれ以降、このコンクールだけには出たくないと言い切っていました。当時（とうじ）は、わあわあと泣いていましたが、終わったことは悔（く）いても「後の祭り（あとのまつり）」です。
で、それから3年経（た）ち、迎えた1次予選。とても緊張して臨（のぞ）みました。1次予選の曲は、彼女にとってはとても簡単でした。でも、本当に緊張していたようです。1週間前ぐらいから「もう弾けない」「緊張する」と練習のときから言っていました。そして、本番。冒頭、慌てたようで、音を外してしまうという失敗。まさかの失敗。あー、あっという間に夏が終わってしまったという感じでした。終わったあとは、思わず私と二人で唖然（あぜん）としてしまい、言葉が出ませんでした。そして彼女の表情は、悔しさでいっぱいという感じでした。
でも、最初の失敗はあったものの、今回は一気に最後まで弾（ひ）き切（き）ったというのが、3年間の努力の成果だったと思います。
コンクールの日から一夜明け（いちやあけ）、結果発表。「あっ、番号があった！！」なんとか合格していたようで、大喜び。まだまだ緊張（きんちょう）が続く夏となりそうです。
