Answer part 1:

Go to the site http://lattlast.se/ if you can't read it straight away, try reading it first (or in a parallel Windows window) through the function Google Translate to see what it is all about. Then click on the link to the paper "8 sidor", it says "Till 8 SIDOR.se". It is a paper with extremely easy articles. Find a dictionary to your own language, if you don't have one, see if any of the following two may work for you: http://tyda.se/ and http://lexin.nada.kth.se/lexin/. Spanish is called "spanska" in Swedish, you might need to know this if you try to look up a word in the "Lexin" dictionary. "Slå upp" means in this context to "Find it!".

Go through the first article, today it is about the Olympic games. It starts off with "I dag börjar de olympiska spelen, OS, i Brasilien. Under två veckor kommer idrottare från hela världen att vara med i världens största idrottstävling." Go through it word for word: "In day (=Today) begins the olympic games, OG, in Brazil. Under (=During) two weeks come (=will) sportsmen from /the/ whole world to be with in (=to be part of) /the/ worlds biggest sports-contest." Learn the new words, one at a time. Pay attention to letters with dots and circles, they're regarded as different letters in their own right å ä ö and pronounced differently than a normal a or o, and are listed at the end of the alphabet: ...xyzåäö.

Duolingo is probably also a good idea. I have heard that it is a good tool for language learning.

Hi;

I also suggest you try  https://www.duolingo.com

It will get you started into the basics of the grammar and vocabulary.

Answer part 2:

On the page there is a button "lyssna" (=listen), click it to hear the sound. Listen as many times as you need. When you've looked up and learned all the words in the article (make a glossary list) you'll find it much easier to take on the next article and so on. After a while you'll become better and better, and soon it might be time for you to get a penpal. Then you might go to the site http://www.brevweb.com/ and make an entry, look at other ads on the site to decide how you want to formulate your ad. When you've been studying Swedish for a while, you will no longer find it a daunting task to write down a few lines about yourself in Swedish.

You could also mangle brief snippets of text trhough Google Translate to get a rough translation. For example the example above translates into "Today begins the Olympic Games , Olympic Games , in Brazil. For two weeks, athletes from around the world to join the world's largest sporting event.".
