Should malls be closed on Sundays?
Let's set aside the economic impact but focus on some benefits of malls being closed on a Sunday.

Most people in my country hang out with friends
and they usually choose the nearest mall.. However, I was contemplating about the idea of malls being closed on a Sunday and what benefits would it bring.

I think that if malls are closed on a Sunday, they can focus on more important things.

Culture and the meaning of life in Poland is very similar to that one in the Philippines. In Poland government established restrictions in this topic some tme ago and reaction of the people wasn't verry positive. I dont' think that it's good idea. People should be free. If you don't want to make shoping in Sunday just don't go to the mall that day. That's all. I can't understand it at all why the people shouldn't have any choise how to spend their time.

Florian K., I live in Moscow. This means until recently (some 10 years ago) everything was 24/7 here. You could walk to a nearby computer shop and buy a PC motherboard at 4 a.m.

And I can compare, to Vienna, for example. My friends found themselves literally hungry there in the weekend, because it was impossible to buy some food.

From what I see, 24/7 is extremely convenient. Besides I like shopping in 4 a.m., when everyone is sleeping:)

You mean something differnet though: entertainment... I just don't like malls:) I hang out with my friends either at my place or in theirs.

I don't think Malls should close on sundays, mamy people just can go out with friends or family that day, you know
that's why malls will rpobably never close on sundays, I think poeple spend much more money that day than other ones

I'm not sure about what benefits it could bring. Most people who are in favor of malls being closed don't visit them on Sundays anyway. I think it's a bit naive, though nice, to think that this act somehow encourage people to spend more time with each other,I mean this is the main reason I usually read.
The only people that this might not be true for are the employees.
I agree that it's not necessary to be open, and having a weekday is not the same as having an extra day of weekend, because most events happens at said times.
There are some employees, especially part-time workers and students, who actually prefer to work on Sundays, though.
I think it would be okay to have malls open from 8-14,it's kind of a half-way between the extreme.

In Germany all shops are closed on Sundays. Malls exist but aren’t as popular as in other countries and are of course closed. I don’t think this will change in the near future as the “free Sunday” is very important to the Germans
