Would you like to visit your italki Japanese firends someday? Your friends may invite you to their house. Let's prepare for your future visiting Japanese home in this session.
When you are invited to their home, you need to remember one important thing to be polite: follow their custom as much as you can. Japanese people often leave their shoes at entrance in thier houses, even though living in a different country, so you may need socks without holes. Japanese visitors usually bring suveniors when visit friend's home at distance.
Here is the greeting when you are coming in their house.
Visitor: おじゃまします。（Ojama shimasu.）
House owner: どうぞ。（douzo.）
"おじゃまします。" means "I'm coming in your house or room. " but this is just the etiquette to say before you come in somebody's housing. "どうぞ。" indicates the permission. You may use this phrase when somebody asks your permission like;
A: （あなたの）ペンを使ってもいいですか。（(あなたの)ぺん を つかっても いいですか。：(anata no) pen wo tukattemo ii desuka.）May I use your pen?
B: どうぞ。(Douzo.)
Receiver： いただきます。（itadaki masu.)
Server: どうぞ。 （douzo)
There are several types of response to the ”おじゃまします。” But you do not need to learn everything at this moment. Just pick one of these as yours.
* どうぞ。どうぞ。（douzo, douzo.) The enphasized expression.
* どうぞ、お入りください。（おはいり ください。:Ohairi kudasai.）More formal way to say. "Please come in."
* いらっしゃい。（irasshai.）Welcome
* ようこそ。（youkoso.) Welcome
Have you heard いらっしゃい！(irasshai!) at Japanese restaurants or grocery stores in your country? But in this case, you should not say "おじゃまします。: Ojamashimasu." as the response but rather say "こんにちは。: konnichiwa". "おじゃまします。” is particulary used for visiting home or private spaces; because the noun "邪魔（じゃま：jama)" is originally defined as "interuption" so you'll see what it means.
Finally, when you leave the home, what should you particularly say?
When you come in, you say "おじゃま します。” （ojama shimasu）
When you leave your friend's home, you should say "おじゃま しました。" （ojama shimashita）。You only need to shift the "...す。(su)" and "...した。(shita)" so the time tense changes from the present to the past.
However, there are several more expressions when you come in and leave somebody's home.
You know:
おじゃまします。＞＞おじゃましました。
These are new for you.
失礼します。（しつれいします。: shitsurei shimasu）＞＞失礼しました。（しつれい しました。: shitsurei shimashita.）
おじゃまします。＞＞おいとまします。(Oitoma shimasu.)
失礼します。(しつれい します。: shitsurei shimasu)means oliginally "to excuse". So you can use this expression the same as "Excuse me." But you also can use it when you enter the somebody's room or house to be invited. Then you say "失礼しました。（しつれい しました。： shitsurei shimashita." when you leave. Notice that you just need to change the end part of the sentence. No hassle.
The last was "おいとまします。: Oitoma shimasu." which means "I'm leaving." and a kind of the declaration to leave their home. People may put a modifier "もう そろ そろ: mou soro soro" before it. So the house owner notice that they want to leave. This is an old fashioned expression but has still been used.
