Today, I made french fries. I have always loved french fries but my mom would
not let me buy them. She did not say that I could not make them myself. I once cooked french fries with my mother. They tasted like toasted cardboard. But I
was determined to make the French fries edible this time. I peeled a potato and
sliced it to pieces. I begged my mom to use the correct amount of oil.
There had to be enough oil to fill a bowl. I washed the starch off the potato
slices and pooled them into a pot with the oil. I left them to boil* for 5 minutes.
Then, I used a spatula to turn the french fries over. I boiled* them for another 2
minutes and got the french fries out. I salted them, chose one, and popped it
into my mouth. The french fries tasted great, as good as the ones cooked in a
restaurant. Even my mother liked my french fries.
*about boil: I am not very good at cooking so this might be correct! I just marked it because usually boiling is for cooking things like spaghetti in a pot of water, and whenever I've heard about people making french fries, they fry them, or deep fry them (which I think is just when they're fully submerged in the oil). A good expression to use with frying is "I left them to sizzle," or "I cooked them for another 2 minutes" etc.
