Customizing special shoes.
Today I heard in an episode of the “Culips” podcast that ballet dancers often break a brand new pair of pointe shoes in order to soften them and make them more flexible and less rigid.
It’s interesting that professional dancers buy an expensive pair of shoes that are probably a famous brand, but still need to break them.
I read about it on the internet and understood that there are a few reasons for this “damaging”. Firstly, since each shape of foot is different brand, new shoes don't feel comfortable. Another reason is the fact that ballet in general is steeped in traditions. But anyway, it still blows my mind.
I remember at university some guys in football training removed the inner sole of their shoes after buying a new pair. I thought, wow, the famous brands (like Nike or Adidas) designed this pair with a special insole for better cushioning, probably spent millions of dollars on that, but anyway players remove them, incredible.
Thank you!
