Love is an action. A man loves his wife. Love is a feeling. Parents feel love for their child. Lover is a person. Come here, lover boy! Lover as in they are having sex. oh and 'My love', can be a term of affection. Like Sweetie, Honey, etc.

If you say you have a lover, that means you are in a romantic relationship with someone, and you feel confident enough to say he is YOUR lover. Married people can be lovers to, and I hope they are. If you call someone by a name like "hello, Sweetheart" "Hello, Honey", "Hello my Darling", "Hello, my Love"....you could be talking to your spouse, lover, child, very close friend, etc. Women often use these sweet "nick-names", and men will call their girl friend or wife sweet names like this also.

/ lover / implies /making love/, i.e. sexual activity. /My love/ is a tender or kind expression of a feeling towards somebody we love. Love comes in three major tastes: romantic (passionate), towards sons and family, towards our biggest (cultural) interests or (artistic/scientific/ ....) creations; In the particular case of planning a family, or wishing a long term relationship, I would dare to say that if the lover is also the person that you love (romantic love), that is good ground (obviously: and viceversa for the other person!).
