Both mean basically the same thing, especially in normal conversation. Classify has another meaning as well. Sometimes classify can mean to make secret (for example, "classified information" is secret).

Classify is more often used for concepts and categorize is used for objects, sort of like "organize." That's how I understand it, anyway~
