what's the meaning of the word “cal'lated”?
in <<The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County Mark Twain>>
“He ketched a frog one day, and took him home, and said he cal'lated to educate him; and so he never done nothing for three months but set in his back yard and learn that frog to jump.” Thank you
It's actually "cal'klated". We hear "calculated", but we understand it as "decided".
"He ketched a frog one day, and took him home, and said he cal'klated to edercate him..." that's just how Mark Twain wrote Wheeler's speaking habits.
