What's the difference between mulling over and pondering over in this sentence? I've been mulling/pondering over what you said last night.

They basically have the same meaning of thinking about something carefully, but the imagery behind each word is different.

They mean the same thing. Also, "pondering" usually doesn't take the preposition "over". "I've been pondering what you said last night" would be better for my style of English.
