I will say 马路 or 路 are more often used in oral Chinese. 路 can be any road or street, 马路 usually means road for vehicle. 道路 is more official and used more as written language. Examples: 路:路上有没有吃的地方?(Any place for food near the road/street?) 马路:看,马路上有一条狗。(Look! There is a dog on the (vehicle)road.) 道路:这条道路是1998年建造的。(This road was built in 1998.) I hope it helps!

马路- Commonly used on roads for driving. 道路- Formal/Written, seldom conversational Above are all subsets of 路, which could mean roads, paths, streets, tracks etc

All of them are correct. We usually use 路 or 道路 more, but in the past 马路 is more to used I guess so , you can imagine this in the past people leave their home to a big market, of course there are no cars so people are taking their bicycles to market , NO no no in the deep past deeper past, so people go to market by ride their horses, and the road is not made by concrete. Now I think you know why we called it 马路 In my opinion it's not good to pursue the details like what different between 路 and 道路 and what different between 手臂and 胳膊 specially for a biginner for example if I ask you what different between A: I got to go B: I had to go C: I've got go if you ask "you often use 马路 or 路 ?they have much different? or just actually no much different?" Wow it's easy to answer.
