What does "In terms of fishing as an economic activity, " mean? In terms of fishing as an economic activity, the largest segment of world fisheries is commercial fishing.

Fishing to generate money. If you just go fish in a river for free, and you keep the fish, and you eat it yourself, this is just a leisure activity. If you fish to sell the fish (or even pay someone to fish in their water), this is economic activity. Make sense?

Okay, sure. In this sense, we use 'as' as a way of describing what something is at that point in time: Fishing as economic activity (the fishing generates money in some way) Fishing as leisure (the fishing is being done as a pass time) Football as a commercial activity (football makes money) Bird watching as a hobby Reading as a method of language acquisition Do these make sense for you now?
