What is the difference about " creature " and " monster " After reading the book about " Magic Tree House #1 Dinosaurs Before Dark" , I had a question about that The kids called dinosaurs " creature " , not "animal" or "monster" I think that "creature" means "real" animal ? "monster" can be "real" or "pretend" ? Am I true?

Hello, you are correct in stating the difference between creature and monster, but I think there is something else which needs to be included. A creature is generally a created thing, so I suppose we could say 'real', and a monster can be a created thing, or pretend, as you've said. However, a monster is usually something which we find scary or terrifying. So, if the children aren't scared of the dinosaurs, then they won't call them monsters. I hope this helps, best wishes, Annie

A monster is an abnormal thing, usually an animal, and usually characterised by excessive size, unacceptable behaviour or repellent form. A creature is an animal - mammal, bird, reptile, not usually human. Horror writing often features monstrous creatures: in context they can be referred to as monster or creature interchangeably. A monster which is half man and half elephant is definitely a creature, stressing its inhuman monstrosity.

monster is more negative. monsters are pretend but at the same time monster is a way of describing a person who does evil things. creatures are just living things, a tiny bug is a creature but not monster. monster is only used to describe either behavour or a pretend beast in a movie.
