by itself " a gum adhesive backing over the area containing the indication" doesn't make a lot of sense. I think the context would make it clearer. I don't think it's very clear english.
gum = 膠 (厚的)(也可以表示口香糖 - chewing gum)
adhesive = 粘合剂
indication = 跡象
" a gum adhesive backing“ is a little strange. i think it means "a gummy adhesive backing" or better: "an adhesive gum backing"
gum adhesive backing = 後面有(厚的?)黏合劑
over the area containing the indication: 在跡象的部份(?)上
"forging laps and folds" does not make sense to me. do you have the whole sentence?
