Hello! I'm Billy-Mai a.k.a Shams, which is the Arabic word for ‘Sun’!
I’m a professional writer, poet and self-development coach. I love psychology, philosophy, and the mystery and depth of our metaphysical existence. I’m the perfect teacher for you if you love talking about all things spiritual, mystical and psychological.
I'm a copywriter, editor, proofreader, and content creator, and write blogs, songs and books in my free time.
I used to work in the film/TV industry as a producer and assistant director, and in the music industry as an artist manager and event producer. I’m also an artist, musician, filmmaker, podcast host, children's book author, and run a care home for rescue dogs!Ik als leerkracht
I began teaching English over 11 years ago shortly before winning an award for my dedication and enthusiasm as a volunteer teaching assistant. After that, I moved to London and became a private tutor for an education centre. I taught English Language, Literature and Drama to children (KS1 to A-Level/ages 4-18), and gained experience teaching English as a second language (ESL) to groups of adults. Now I work online across the world!
I'm TESOL certified and received a First Class Honors in my degree BA Media and Communication with Creative Writing.
I am currently studying Psychology and Psychotherapy and offer various workshops and services as a Self-Discovery and Self-Management Coach.Mijn lessen en manier van lesgeven
I offer 3 types of classes:
1. Conversational English Class:
We discuss interesting topics while I occasionally pause the conversation to help you understand how to use the correct grammar, words and pronunciation, and introduce you to new vocabulary and phrases.
2. Creative Writing Workshops:
From poetry to email writing, scriptwriting to academic reports, I can assist you in improving your writing skills and developing your creative voice and personality.
3. Self-Discovery and Self-Management Sessions:
We work together as I guide you through a journey of self-exploration and personal growth. I offer techniques for better self-awareness, emotional regulation, and effective goal-setting.Mijn lesmateriaal

Bachelor’s - Media and Communication with Creative WritingModules included: TV production, Screenwriting and Innovations in Poetry and Prose. Through research-based creative projects, I tailored my studies towards my own interests, producing several creations including: a podcast, a documentary, a 64 page poetry portfolio, and invented the first ever audio-written emotive reading experience. I was also the Project Manager for a WIP symposium attended by over 100 individuals.

- Taught one-to-one classes as well as large groups, differentiating between
specific personal guidance, and conducting myself in a way that was

Assistant Director and Children's Chaperone- Working for multiple production companies, creating content for platforms
including: Netflix, Sky One, Amazon Prime, BBC, ITV and Film 4.
- Crowd director, experienced in communicating direction to children and
adults clearly and effectively.
- Experienced as a chaperone on film locations, responsible for child actors’
well-being, performance times and treatment on set.
- Experienced as a theatre chaperone, keeping the children hydrated, focused,
quiet and happy, backstage.
2012 - 2013
Volunteer Teaching Assistant- Helped year 11 English students achieve their maximum potential in their coursework and IGCSEs. This taught me how to maintain focus with interruptions, as well as how to successfully motivate others whilst being friendly and remaining patient.
- Helped run drama workshops for 7 to 8 year olds visiting the school.
- Assistant director/acting coach for the school’s rendition of The Wizard of Oz.
- Proceeded to win a Diana Champion Volunteer Award for this effort two years later.
