I focus on what will work best for my student. Should I speak slowly, quickly, make the subject matter easy or challenging. Importantly, what does the student want from the class. That's what I try to do. I never thought I would become a teacher. Since I was 18 years old I started tutoring and then one after another opportunity came up in which I found myself teaching. I realized that I loved teaching. Since I didn't go through the normal route to get a teaching certificate in college, when I finally did start teaching I put a lot of pressure on myself to be the best teacher I could be and to really reach my students. My classes are private, so I try to customize the class for each student and to identify their needs. It actually takes a few classes to do this, which is difficult because the student usually expects you to figure it out quickly. I try to help each person to reach their language goals of fluency and to give them the skills to be a better language learner so that they aren't dependent upon me or any other teacher or material. Mark is an excellent teacher! I have only had a couple of lessons so far, but he has helped me with my pronunciation a lot. I also like the fact that he tells me how spanish speakers really say something rather than letting me continue say something I think is correct from a textbook. He is very patient and supportive. I would definitely recommend him as a teacher.

Mark is patient and listens to me struggle with appropriate clarification of pronunciation or proper grammar that encourages me and eases my path. He uses graphics and reading materials to expand my vocabulary and knowledge of how natives use the language. He is the perfect teaches for me.
