I was born in Canada and I still live here now. I like to travel! With my family, I've visited most European countries.
My interests include history, economics, demography. I like to read and to watch videos about these and other topics. I equally enjoy discussion of other topics: business & finance, relationships, planning & organization, life goals & aspirations, philosophy, etc.
I like to read! In 2019, I started with 13 books. Last year, I read 24! It took a serious effort to make reading a part of my regular life routine! I hope to eventually be able to read a book every week.
Some activities I like are hiking, baking, photography, biking, target-shooting.
Ik als leerkracht
My goal is to engage my students as much as possible, to make learning interesting and maximally easy. I recognize this is a difficult goal, because language-learning is not easy and not even always interesting.
I may have my preferred methods, I may prefer to spend more time on certain topics than on others, but my job is to help the student, however they need this help. So I like to have constant feedback on what is working and what is not in order to make needed adjustments.
I don't expect perfection. For me, what is worse is not a student's mistake when speaking, but when the student is too shy to speak. My thinking is that the more mistakes I catch, the less the student will make.
Mijn lessen en manier van lesgeven
In my lessons, there is a mix of activities: reading, pronunciation practice, speaking, so on. I think practice is important, so explanations involve examples with practice for after.
Depending on the type of lesson, I may use a document or presentation. A document for images, example sentences, and more, to allow my students to see useful information updated in real-time from our class written in an easy-to-read format, which can also be reviewed later. A presentation may be used for difficult concepts which I am explaining. However, practice is also included in any case.

I have been studying with Denis for more than half a year. Lessons are mostly in the format of speaking classes, which is a priority for me now. But also the teacher does not forget to correct grammar and add new expressions to my vocabulary.
Very interesting person to talk to, and a sensitive teacher. We will keep working.

Очень рад что мне удалось найти такого учителя английского как Dennis! Очень умный, вовлечённый, методичный, скрупулёзный преподаватель. Объясняет темы которые многие преподаватели игнорируют или не уделяют должного внимания. Красивые презентации:)

We had a group class with Dennis. He prepared a topic about personal qualities to discuss. It was convenient that Dennis also speaks Russian, so sometimes he could help with translation. The lesson could be more interesting if the lesson included a presentation and different games to remember the words. We would appreciate more dynamics and interactivity during the lesson
