My name is Awa. I am deeply passionate about the brain, learning languages, and teaching them. I am fluent in Wolof, French, and English and proficient in Spanish. Currently, I am delving into German, Russian, Arabic, and Mandarin. Learning a new language doesn't have to be boring—it's a life-changing skill. With years of teaching languages to kids and adults under my belt, I've learned what works best. My teaching methods are based on how our memory works and lessons I've learned from my own language-learning experiences. Instead of focusing on memorizing vocabulary lists, I say LET'S START SPEAKING FROM DAY 1! Unlike typical classes that stress too much on grammar and writing, I put the spotlight on improving speaking and listening skills. TWO KEY PRINCIPLES: EXPOSURE and ASSOCIATION
My approach to teaching deviates from the conventional classroom style which, in my experience, can often be dull. Instead, I aim to immerse you in the language you're learning, introducing EXPOSURE from DAY 1. This immersion is achieved by connecting new words and phrases with familiar elements in your environment, crafting CONVERSATION naturally and seamlessly. Today Awa brought a guest to class to encourage dialogue. This pushed me to answer questions and ask questions to someone new. It also allowed me to hear a different accent and adapt to hearing a different speed. Thank you Awa for always challenging me on the road to conversational fluency.
