Here I will read the second page of Niet thuis. Listen carefully because some things are repeated in the story. 

The room is not big, 3 by 4 meters.  But Lisa has her own bathroom, with toilet.  And a balcony.  And that is special for a student in Amsterdam.  Lisa puts her backpack on a chair and takes off her coat.  So first make tea.  She walks to the large kitchen at the end of the hall.  The kitchen is for all students together.  And that's not so great.  The kitchen is always dirty and messy.  Very dirty and very messy.  Lisa takes the kettle and puts water in the device.  Then she wants to go back to her room. Japanese daily life podcast のAtsushiです。
このPodcastは、日本語を勉強しているみなさんに向けたPodcastです。

日本の年度始まりについて話します。
年度というのは、1年間をどこで区切るか、ということです。日本では、2023年度といえば、だいたいの会社や学校は2023年4月から2024年3月をいいます。

でも、海外だと、9月はじまりが多かったりしますね。では日本はなぜ4月からはじまるのか、知っていますか？
それについて話をしますね！

実はこれには江戸時代に関係があります。
江戸時代は日本の1600-1870年ぐらいまでの約300年ぐらい続きました。この時代にも税金を払っていたんですね。ですがこの時はお米でした。米を税金の代わりに納めていたんですね。時代は変わって明治時代になります。明治時代になると米を納めることはなくなりました。その代わりに米を売ってそのお金を税金として納めるようになりました。米を売ってすぐに税金を納めるのはむずかしかったので、時期がずれて4月が年度はじめになった、ということです。

ぼくははじめ、桜が咲いたりする時期で、なんとなく出会いと別れのイメージがありますが、それは自分で勝手に結びつけていたイメージなんだなと思いました。

一方で、海外はなぜ9月が多いかというと、これも同じような理由でした。夏は収穫で忙しい時期だったので、その後の9月にビジネスなどの新年度が始まるようになったそうです。いくつかのネットの情報を見たり、chat GPTに聞いてみたりしました。

ということで、日本では新しくはじまる時期が4月なんですね。それで新しいことを始める、という人も多いと思います。ぼくは今、英語を勉強していますが、オランダ語も勉強しようと思っています。Duolingo では、いろいろと言語を勉強しているんですが、それはまぁ、遊んでいる感じですね。今年はオランダ語、がんばって勉強しようかなぁと思っています。
