In the sentence,“Applied research aims at some specific objective, such as the development of a new product, process, or material.” Why the word “objective” here is not of its plural form?
'Objective' is singular. Each piece of research aims at one objective. A piece of research doesn't have multiple objectives.
'Some' can be used with singular nouns. It indicates a specific thing but which specific thing isn't known or said.
