"Fare" can be used as a description of the money to pay for any kind of transportation. You can say "bus fare" "taxi fare", "subway fare", "train fare", "plane fare". And you can use "fare" on its own: "What's the fare from Paris to Munich?" Usually you would ask such a question to someone selling tickets by bus or train, etc.
