Sister Feng
I believe any chinese who knows how to surf the internet knows Sister Feng, Whose real name is Luo Yufeng. She is famous for her daring words, something like:I am incredibly smart and nobody can compare with me in 300 years before and after or I am super beautiful. One day in 2009,a short plain girl stood in Lujiazui, which known as shanghai's Wall Street. She was delivering flyers with specific demands for potential suitors.Sister Feng's ideal man had to graduate from one of the country's top universities who studied economics or something similar. He had to be between 5ft 9in and 6ft tall and was not be employed by state companies, but it's ok if the company was PetroChina, Sinopec or top banks' on the leaflet. Those demands seems unachievable, silly and absurd as Sister Feng's height is only 4ft 6in, and she worked for a local branch of Carrefour supermarket as a cashier. It was her first shot to fame. She started the journey as a "notorious" internet sensation in China. Vituperation was gushing over her. At the same time, she was earning money from TV shows, public activities. Then in 2010, Sister Feng moved to the Unite States of America.
Now she lives in Brooklyn, USA as a manicurist. She wrote on the Sina Weibo that she was a ugly girl came from a very poor family in a remote area in China. She didn't want to be a famer's wife having a poor and normal life. She had a dream and had planed to exploit the internet to change her life when she was 21. Even though she left China, she didn't plan to disappear from the public. She updates her Sina Weibo- the Chinese equivalent of Twitter frequently, and there are 1.4 million followers who are keeping a eye on her. Still, there are lots of accusation pointing at her, some of them are very insulting.
I just don't understand why some people are so angry at Sister Feng. If we think deeply, we will find out that she actually doesn't do anything wrong. Does she commit a crime or does she hurt somebody's feeling? No, she doesn't. She just amuses us as clowns always do on a stage. Does she deserve the flood of abuse just because she is not beautiful and overconfident?
Though Sister Feng bore lots of abuse in those years, she still stuck on her dream and made it true. At this point, I admire her.
