I am a native US-English speaker, and I have never heard that phrase. Are you sure you have written it correctly? Where did you read it? Could you provide the full context?

do you mean "get a grip on"? GRIBS is not a word, as far as I know. GET A GRIP on mean to gain control or come to terms with some situation.

Hello guys, this is teacher Princewil, today we are going to learn idioms, their meaning and examples. First what is the importance of idioms? Idioms are particularly useful because they give you a new, creative way to express yourself. Rather than saying 'You're correct', you could say 'You hit the nail on the head', which is a more complex and interesting expression. 1) “Early bird catches the worm” Meaning: One who starts early on the work has higher chance of success. Example: X: Why have you come so early for the season-ending sale? Y: So that I can choose from a wider selection and get a better piece. Early bird catches the worm, after all. 2) "Living hand to mouth" 🧐Meaning: Having only enough money to buy food and shelter; extremely poor. ✅Example: Sneha was forced to live hand to mouth before she got a job at a leading MNC. 3)"Give it a whirl" 🧐Meaning: To give something a try. ✅Example: I am absolutely terrified of skydiving, but I think once in my life, I will give it a whirl. 3)"ask out" 🧐Meaning: Why you ask someone out, you ask them to go on a date with you. ✅Example: I can't believe it. Tommy said he's too shy to ask that girl out. 4) "Keep/hold someone’s feet to the fire" 🧐Meaning: Pressurizing someone to approve and undertake something. ✅Example: The press has been holding the actress’s feet to the fire to take her pictures for their national daily. 5)"Draw a blank" 🧐Meaning: An unsuccessful/failed attempt. ✅Example: We have been looking for Ivan’s dog the whole day but we have drawn a blank. 6)"Pull someone’s leg" 🧐Meaning: To joke with someone, to trick someone in a humorous way ✅Example: I think he was just pulling your leg when he said you’ve fallen in the exam. “Don’t throw the baby with the bathwater” 🧐Meaning: Don’t discard something valuable while getting rid of something worthless. ✅Example: We shouldn’t scrap the entire project for a subpart not planned well. Let’s not throw the baby with the bat
