Beautiful Man Ok! I am hearing my listening English practice, and it seems the man that they are speaking about has worn make up, I know the common word that is used for men is "handsome", I want to know if the reason is just making up that makes them use "beautiful" or not! actually I want to know when we can use "beautiful" for men! Thanks in advance!

The adjective "beautiful" can be used to describe the physical appearance of a man if he is exceedingly handsome. For example, if a woman were speaking of a world-famous actor, famous for his good looks, she could easily say, "He's so beautiful." However, if a man called another man "beautiful," one might suspect that the speaker is homosexual. The usage of the word has nothing to do with the use of makeup.

A man can be described as beautiful, in looks and in personality. A man that wears make-up is called a, "metro sexual", but in Newcastle we'd call them a lot worse than that. :)

a beautiful man could mean beautiful in the heart, a very nice and kind person, may be in the gays world the term beautiful is acceptable. I hope that helps

hahahahahaha, last sentence made me laugh a lot! i have never seen a gay, but i saw a lot of men who wore make up, it was redicules to see a man with that physical shape i mean clumsy and big bone style has worn make up,it didn't make sense at all,but i never tell them any thing and i never notice them, there are a lot of variouse beliefs in the world, i don't bother myself with those beliefs that are against me,but honestly i guess i never can endure a gay, this is an exception for me:D

http://cdn.hivehealthmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/metrosexual.jpg I don't have much of a problem with, "metrosexuals". I've been alive since 1973 and men wearing make-up isn't anything new to me: straight men in the 1980's used to wear make-up because of a band called, "Adam and the Ants", my dad even did the printing for men's, "Adam and the Ants make-up kits". Seriously. There were (which may be the same thing/time) "New Romantics" where men would wear make-up and wear frilly blouses. Prince was a leader in his own style, which usually entailed wearing lace and make-up (and high heeled shoes). So, men walking around now, wearing tight tops, foundation, eye liner, and fake tan, doesn't really bother me. Some men get angry and intimidated because they think it's a sign of weakness, and homosexuality, but I'm not offended or bothered by weakness or homosexuality (which aren't related by the way, some very strong men are gay), I've lived with more than one gay man, and been friends with many gay people over the years. As people say, "I judge the devil by his deeds", which means I give everyone a chance, get to know them, and then decide what I think of them. I'll tell you something that I've noticed, straight men, always ask gay men, if they "fancy them" and the straight men always look surprised and offended when the gay men say "no" hahahahaha
