What does "it makes for " mean? People often buy pastel at these places in the daytime because it makes for a quick, delicious and very cheap lunch that they can eat while shopping in the street market. This crispy pastry really satisfies your hunger! What does "it makes for " mean? I don't know what it refers to. Could you explain?

It means that it can be used to make a good lunch, or that it will constitute a good lunch. (I'm not really sure what food 'pastel' actually is.) Someone might say cheese and crackers make for a good snack, or that a stick makes for a good weapon in a pinch. It's about taking something and making it into something useful.

In this context 'it makes for' means 'it is good for' . "It is good for a quick, and delicious lunch"
