念verb.=read 念书=reading ,but we usually use it as "studying" eg. 1. A：你在干什么？what are you doing? B:念书。（reading） 2. A:你在念书还是已经工作了？Are you at school or begun to work? B: 还在念书（还在上学）still at school 学(verb.)=学习 you can say 我学中文。我学习中文。我念中文 or 我念中文书。(the former is better) 学（noun.）=学校 我要上学=我要念书≠我要上学校 because 我要上学校 also can means "go to shcool to do sth else ,not studying" Hope these help you.
