Deferral Deferred, in accounting, is any account where the asset or liability is not realized until a future date, e.g. annuities, charges, taxes, income, etc. The deferred item may be carried, dependent on type of deferral, as either an asset or liability. See also: accrual Deferred is also used in the university admissions process. It is the action by which a school rejects a student for early admission but still opts to review that student in the general admissions pool. deferment ▶ noun POSTPONEMENT, deferral, suspension, delay, adjournment, interruption, pause; respite, stay, moratorium, reprieve, grace.

I looked further into this question, and again, deferral and deferment are both nouns that mean the same thing "to put off or delay," but deferment is the older version of this noun for the verb defer, so I would maybe opt for that one over deferral.

I have this same question, the only thing I've been able to find is that "deferral" and "deferment" are both nouns of the verb "defer." It seems they might be completely interchangeable, and both have the same meaning.
