Melissa Chen

Excellent class. I learn so much vocabulary in Melissa’s class. Melissa helps me become confident because she gives me more words to express my thoughts. Every class is interesting and different because we cover many useful topics that I can use in my daily life. After class I always copy the characters and pinyin she gives me because it helps me retain the vocabulary. I highly recommend Melissa as a teacher. She is also helping my husband and he is becoming so much better in his speaking.

Melissa makes very efficient use of lesson time. I just had a 30-minute lesson with her so she could see what level my Chinese is and she still managed to squeeze a vocabulary lesson into that short time. Her English level is very high, so she has no trouble understanding you if you need to say something in English. But she's a good teacher because she still speaks Chinese even when you as the student drift into English. She keeps you feeling like you are immersed in a Chinese conversation, so your brain won't revert back to English thinking and lose the Chinese state of mind.

Melissa does a very good job of both reviewing and building upon vocabulary and sentence formats. This is great for both retaining the new material, and also learning how to use the constructions in real contexts. She also does an amazing job at being flexible in the lesson - she will depart from the "written lesson" to pursue new topics arising from my questions and areas of interest.
