It’s only my second session with Alisha, but I’ve already learned a lot about myself, my English personality, and the language-learning process. I see pronunciation as a way to expand myself—using my tongue differently to say sounds like ‘th’ feels playful and joyful. Alisha compared it to a gym workout, and now I think of it as training my mouth muscles to stretch my abilities. I’ve realized that every language has unique beauties that don’t always translate. I often stumble when trying to express in English what doesn’t exist in Farsi and vice versa, but Alisha has been a great help in navigating those moments. English as a second language has its own charm, allowing me to explore concepts that don’t exist in my native tongue. For example, when reading ‘Alice in Wonderland’ with Alisha, I found the word ‘glide,’ which means to move smoothly and quietly. There’s no direct equivalent in Farsi, so I was thrilled to finally have a word to describe that kind of movement.
