Lydia is a very professional and diligent Chinese language teacher. She is an expert at customizing lessons to go at your pace and to coincide with your interests and goals in Chinese. I have worked with her for two years now and she has incorporated my interests in Tai Chi and Chinese dance into my Foundational HSK lessons to make an excellent complement to my personalized lessons. She translates songs, videos, and specialized material for me and puts in extra effort to give me all the background needed to understand the material better. She is a joy to work with and always has a friendly smile and words of encouragement throughout each and every lesson. I highly recommend Lydia for your Chinese language goals!

Attention all high school students cramming for your AP Chinese Language and culture exam! After slacking off in this class for months I realized the exam was in two weeks and began franticly searching for a teacher on iTalki. Lydia was one of the only teachers who were available on that day, so I scheduled a 30 minute class with her to ask if she could help me prepare for this exam. At first she was honest about not being to familiar with the AP exam, but she took the initiative to research and prepare her own materials, specially catered for the exam! I didn't feel like I was cramming; we were able to cover all the material. I found the culture presentation part most challenging, but Lydia was most helpful in this area. If you want a good grade in your AP Chinese class and a 5 on your exam, Lydia is the teacher for you!

Clear communication and feedback, and a plan for how to work on my problem areas.

Lydia has an excellent method of presenting Chinese characters that makes it really easy to remember. She shows pictures and drawings and even little stories and relates them to the strokes of the character. It is great for visual learners like myself. I can clearly remember the character meaning by remembering the pictures she associated with the character. Give one of her classes a try and you will learn characters very efficiently and quickly and it really goes into your long term memory. It's amazing!
