What are the difference of ‘instable’ ‘unstable’ ‘destabilizing’ ‘destabilized’? I got a sentence [uncertainties and destabilizing factors] Could I replace ‘destabilizing’ with above three words?

Hello Shana I have not seen the word "instable" being used often. The word "instability" exists, though.Instability is just the noun form of unstable. On the other hand, unstable means when someone or something is likely to change suddenly. In relation to destabilizing and destabilized, the word destabilize without the (d) is a verb which means to make a system, country, government etc become unstable, face unrest or less successful while destabilizing is an adjective which means upsetting the stability of a region or system; causing unrest. In relation to your sentence, l think it is not very clear to me. So do well and send me a complete sentence so l can help you but in return, l have some suggestions: - uncertainties and instability may destabilize the system… - uncertainties destabilized the economy… N.B It is better to say [what is the difference]or [what are the differences] rather that saying [what are the difference] Also, [can l replace] since the action is still to be executed. Best regards 😊

Hi Shana! instable means not balanced or not at fixed point. Instable is a noun that is more commonly modified and used as instability. Unstable on the other hand is the adjective form. "Radioactive isotopes are unstable". Unstable describes the state of isotopes. Destabilizing is the form of destabilize. Destabilize is a verb that means something that was balanced (i.e stable), has not lost its stability. Destabilized is a regular adjectives for ending in '-ed' of the verb to destabilize. However in the context you have used the word destabilize, must be transformed to destabilizing so that it correctly collocates with factors. Destabilizing is also an adjective form as some adjectives can also be transformed in '-ing'. As a general rule, each noun or any other word can be correctly collocated with a certain word(s).

Yes I stand corrected. Instable is an adjective as transformations with -able are adjective forms.
