Why did you choose Hebrew?

Hi all! I am just curious, both as a language partner and a tutor I encounter people who simply learn Hebrew because they think it's neat! I wanted to conduct a server here to get an idea of what the numbers are. Just one question, will you give an answer?

Are you learning Hebrew because:

1) You come from a Jewish background?

2) You have Hebrew speaking family/friends/partner?

3) You live in Israel?

4) You think Hebrew is cool?

5) Other (please tell!)?

*You can choose more than one answer

Thanks!

Linor

I take Hebrew courses through eTeacher Group using the Ulpan method. It's a fascinating language linguistically (Semitic mostly with triliteral roots but without all the finicky broken plurals of Arabic, and the option of pharyngeal consonants (if I want to sound Yemeni!)) with an even more interesting history being resurrected from an otherwise limited liturgical language as a vibrant, modern, spoken language. Of course, the people who speak it are pretty darn interesting, too!

I read a book about a Christian girl who was trapped during the siege of Jerusalem and found the culture described in it very interesting. I wanted to know more about Israel, and especially about Jerusalem. I googled what it looks like today and what language is spoken in Israel. Hebrew instantly fascinated me and I wanted to learn how to speak it. It's a beautiful language!
