I learned from my textbook when I was young, that when tree leaves are turning yellow and falling, autumn has arrived, and that winter is coming. However, in my city, near the southernmost part of China, things are different. Tree leaves never turn yellow and fall in autumn nor winter, but in spring. Every year around this time, the weather warms up as it would in the early summer. Tree leaves start turning yellow. Most of the time during the season, the sun is shining, which make yellow trees look golden and shiny. When the warm breeze blows, yellow leaves fall and accumulate on the ground. In this city, the sidewalks and driveways have never been covered by white snow in winter, but by yellow leaves in spring. I guess our Chinese textbooks must have been written by northern teachers, as all the content applies to things in the north, does not apply to the south at all.
