Main difference between "boku" and "watashi"? Is there a difference between "boku" and "watashi"? Is it true, that boku is used only about men, and watashi - only about women? Because I often hear, when men, introducing themselves, use watashi. Is it a mistake?

'Boku' and 'Watashi' both mean 'I' but males can refer themselves as either depending on their choice. However, 'watashi' is generally more feminine. Another way for males to say 'I' is 'Ore' and that is viewed as a very masculine way of refering to ones self. Hope this helps =)

watashi and boku are same meaning of "I" . men some times use boku. But If they introduce them self in office,or meet people who meet first time each other, they use "watashi" .If men use boku, maybe he talks with close friends and so on.women always use "watashi". It is like in English, some one introduce about mother. They will say "my mother" not mam.Especially, if we introduce or talk to people who meet first time with us, we and they had better to use "watashi".even man.

"boku" = It is used from the male, especially little boys. However there are adult men who are use it sometimes. Female never use it. "watashi" = It is used from the female, namely women and girls. However adult men can use it.

"Watashi" is the general formal form of "I" applicable for both genders, while "boku" is the colloquial form for male. Application of each form depends on the formality of conversation context, especially social class differences. For instance, a man speaking with his superior or even acquaintance should use "watashi" instead of "boku". Misuse of polite form might make one looks rather standoffish. But colloquial form in a wrong context could be interpreted as impertinence or even insult. Just my two cents. ^^

BOKU is more used by little boys , in certain times it's used by adult like a close friend or situations like to be funny .. WATASHI is used my womens , and if it's man only if he has a high administration rank , as director or professor ...etc or when introducing yourself to a company also use watashi if said by a normal man , it's weird and they think he is girlish .. the most used by men is ' ore '
