i will try the best I can to explain this AND PLEASE CORRECT ALL THE MISTAKES THAT I MAKE :) first of all is not QUÉ, is CUÁL, What is the difference between= cuál es la diferencia entre whatever you are comparing in spanish just use cuál, when you ask about only one thing just use QUÉ :D second of all HUBE is used on actions that doesn't have relation with present, no recuerdo la tarea, tal vez hube estado distraído, i don't remember the homework, maybe i WAS distracted había is used on actions that have any relation whit present, la había visto muchas veces, pero no la recuerdo tadavía i had seen her many times, but i don't remember her yet. hube, hubiste, hubo, hubimos, hubisteis, hubieron are not used usually in spanish, except for HUBO, that one is used normally used in a simple conversation, also it exists subjuntive mode for these tenses, pretérito perfecto simple (yo) hube (tú) hubiste (él) hubo (nosotros) hubimos (vosotros) hubisteis (ustedes) hubieron (ellos) hubieron subjuntive mode of pretérito perfecto simple (yo) hubiera (tú) hubieras (él) hubiera (nosotros) hubiéramos (vosotros) hubierais (ustedes) hubieran (ellos) hubieran or (yo) hubiese (tú) hubieses (él) hubiese (nosotros) hubiésemos (vosotros) hubieseis (ustedes) hubiesen (ellos) hubiesen i know this is very difficult to understand, but if you don't understand yet, you can let me know it, i like helping people, i'm sorry by my english, sometimes i make mistakes, i hope this information helps to you

Pluscuamperfecto literally "more than perfect" is for expressing actions or situations long ago in the past. cuando hube leido el libro lo devolví a la biblioteca. hace unos meses. Preterito anterior (before past) refferres to situations or actions in the past before another event in the past. Devolví el libro que ya había leído. (cuando lo devolví ya lo había terminado) Por cierto suena mucho mejor, más común, más normal:. ¿Qué diferencia hay entre.....?

"hube estado" is rare... the most usual is "estuve" en time past, do not be problems...

"hube estado" is a remote past, it's not used in spoken language but you could see it in texts, specially in poetry or literature. This tense is called " pretérito o pasado anterior" and "había estado" pluscuamperfecto.
